Lauren Thompson, A World Up-Side Down (NATURE WILDERNESS 2025)
I have chosen to take a snapshot of the Flying Fox (Pteropus poliocephalus) representing the Flying Fox camp colony in an urbanized environment on the outskirts of Sydney, NSW, Australia. The picture depicts the vulnerability of the Australian native species, as native habitat is removed by urban expansion. The Flying Fox has no other choice but to set up camp in small pockets of nature with the urban environment. The Flying Fox dwells mainly in River-Flat Eucalyptus Forest (endangered); the photograph depicts Flying Foxes nestled among privet and other weeds. The accumulation of excessive numbers of Flying Foxes leads to disease, heat stress, and urban perils. The Flying Foxes world is really Up-Side Down!
