Kelly Parker, Limestone heaven (PLACES WILDERNESS 2025)

130 million years ago Chillagoe is believed to have been covered by a shallow continental sea. Plesiosaurs and elasmosaurus's thrived in these marine conditions. In 1999, bones of an elasmosaurus were found in Chillagoe. 'Dave' the elasmosaurus (he was nicknamed after his discover) was found to be only 80% complete, his head, tail tip and fins are still missing. There is a model replica on display at the southern entrance of the town.
