Scott Leggo, PERSISTENCE (PLACES WILDERNESS 2025)
Having photographed this tree without snow, I wanted to capture this ancient snow gum in winter snow. Having returned multiple times over the years the conditions and light were never quite right. Finally, on this day it all came together. With the snow falling, and an even covering of snow, it was the perfect setting to capture a winter version of my earlier photograph. Like the original, this one again symbolises the strength of this tree enduring the ever changing harsh conditions of the Australian Alps. With snow gums under threat across the alps, it stands as one of the decreasing number of ancient remnant snow gum trees.
